2018 Annual Report
April 15, 2019
With 2019 in full swing, we’ve had a chance to reflect on the previous year and wanted to share with you some of our highlights.
We celebrated 15 years!
2018 marked 15 years of NC GreenPower working towards a greener North Carolina. We kicked off our celebrations with our #NCGP15Years social media campaign to connect with individuals such as yourselves that have made our work a possibility. We are grateful for the opportunity to grow alongside the sustainable energy sector in North Carolina and are excited to see how the developing industry shapes our work.
Growing Solar Schools
Now in the grant program’s 5th year, NC GreenPower is eager to be welcoming another cohort of solar schools. There was a diverse applicant pool with several new counties represented. Selected schools will be announced in May. Stay tuned for our 2019 schools’ fundraising campaigns later this spring at http://my.ncgreenpower.org/.
Our 2018 schools have all successfully completed their fundraising campaigns are beginning installations at their respective schools. Pilot Year 4 school Lake Lure Classical Academy celebrated their installation with a November ribbon cutting. Read here about how they are involving the greater Lake Lure community in renewable energy education. Cove Creek School in Vilas has their solar installation unveiling scheduled for May 13, 2019. Looking forward, we will be celebrating ribbon cutting events with our remaining 2017 schools soon: Alleghany High, Helena Elementary, and Richmond Early College High. Below is a map of all of our current solar schools by county and tier. To date, these installations have generated more than 146,000 kWh of PV production – enough to power 11 homes for a year! Special thanks to the State Employees Credit Union Foundation for their continued support that allow these projects to flourish.
Events and Outreach
In total, NC GreenPower attended and staffed more than 30 events over the past year. From tabling at the 2018 State Energy Conference, to learning about racial equity at the Young Nonprofit Professionals #NonprofitSTRONG Summit, there were countless take-a-ways that we aim to incorporate into our own work. We continuously strive to cultivate a diverse and inclusive culture within our networks of volunteers and supporters.
In Closing…
Since 2015, donors like you have helped NC GreenPower provide matching grants for the installation of solar PV at NC K-12 schools. This has given teachers valuable tools to educate 23,000+ students about renewable energy in 27 counties across our state so far. Help us reach our goal to have an NC GreenPower Solar School in all 100 counties! Donate now. We appreciate your continued support and hope you will share the word about our efforts and encourage friends and family to make a tax-deductible contribution to NC GreenPower, so we can continue to support renewable energy programs.
