2017 Annual Report

April 3, 2018

Thanks so much for your support! We appreciate your continued support of the environment, renewable energy and our new Solar Schools program in North Carolina. Please share the word about our efforts and encourage friends and family to make a tax-deductible contribution to NC GreenPower, so we can do even more.

Since 2015, donors like you have helped NC GreenPower provide matching grants for the installation of solar PV at NC K-12 schools. The NC GreenPower Solar Schools pilot offers funding for small solar arrays and curriculum, giving teachers valuable tools to educate students about renewable energy. The first three years of the pilot helped us reach more than 9,600 students at 14 schools across our state, from Rutherford County in the west to Craven County in the east. Our fourth pilot year launched on January 2, 2018 and we received applications from enthusiastic schools all across North Carolina. Selected schools will be announced in May.

2018 is a big milestone. It marks 15 years that we’ve been working hard to support local renewable energy and carbon offset projects. Your contributions to the program continue to offset the higher costs associated with producing green energy and capturing greenhouse gases while also supporting our Solar Schools grant program. When you help us, you are helping provide cleaner energy sources and education to our students, benefiting all North Carolinians.

Third Year Pilot NCGP Solar Schools

Thanks to your donations, the NC GreenPower Solar Schools program will give each grant recipient a 5 kW solar PV system, a weather station, monitoring equipment, solar kits for the students, curriculum and training for the teachers, and ongoing support after the installation has been completed.

We need help from donors like you to provide this complete educational package and enhance the learning experience for North Carolina students today and for years to come!

Congratulations to our Pilot Year 3 schools!

Alleghany High School – Sparta, N.C.
Cove Creek School – Villas, N.C.

Four schools have completed their fundraising campaigns, and NC GreenPower will match up to $10,000 for each school using donations from individuals and corporate sponsors. The SECU Foundation has also generously pledged an additional $10,000 for each school to increase the system from 3 kW to 5 kW! Cove Creek Elementary was added as our fifth school late in 2017 and is currently fundraising.
