Annual Generation: 7,227 kWh
Energy Type: Small Scale Solar
Clayton Dean has installed a 5 kW solar PV system with 16 modules that are expected to produce about 7,227 kWh of green energy per year. While the system will help him offset his electricity bill, Clayton feels the most rewarding aspect is in decreasing air pollution.
In addition to installing solar panels, he has evaluated his house and attic for air leaks and added insulation. He sealed around light fixtures and changed most of his light bulbs to LED lights.
Clayton’s advice for others considering solar PV panels? Use a qualified installer. Check with your utility company to see if they will have metering options favorable to small renewable generators. In Clayton’s opinion it is important to donate to NC GreenPower “to encourage the use of renewable, non-polluting energy sources.”
Thinking of installing solar PV at your home? NC GreenPower recommends checking the BBB before beginning work with any contractor. You may also consider hiring a NABCEP certified company or individual to perform the work.
