SECU Foundation extends support of NC GreenPower as Partner level donor for additional four years.
RALEIGH, NC – NC GreenPower announces that State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) members through the SECU Foundation will be continuing their support of NC GreenPower for another four years. The SECU Foundation will be contributing to the NC GreenPower renewable energy product, supporting 1 kilowatt hour of locally sourced, cleaner, greener electricity in North Carolina for each of the SECU’s 1.8 million members.
The SECU Foundation joins other Partner level sponsors whose commitment to green power helps to offset the traditional electricity usage with more sustainable power sources, such as solar, wind, small hydro and landfill methane.
“As a State Employees’ Credit Union member myself, I am honored that the SECU Foundation has chosen once again to support our program. With a commitment to a greener North Carolina and energy efficiency, SECU Foundation and NC GreenPower have a wonderful partnership that directly benefits the citizens of our great state.” – Vicky McCann, Vice President NC GreenPower.
The SECU Foundation’s participation in the NC GreenPower program will equate to about 7.2 million kilowatt hours of renewable energy sent to the North Carolina electric grid over four years. This will help eliminate more than 5.8 million pounds of coal that would have been burned at a coal plant to produce the same amount of energy. The reduction is the environmental equivalent to planting 1.1 million trees or 180,000 days of traditional home electricity usage. The green power generated from this purchase will also help to reduce the use of non-renewable fuel sources, which currently comprises nearly 90% of the state’s energy generation mix. Using more renewable energy provides tangible benefits to the state such as better air and water quality and increased investment in the local energy economy.
“We are pleased to be partnering with NC GreenPower to bring more awareness to North Carolina’s energy and environmental climate,” adds McKinley Wooten, SECU Foundation Board Chair. “As proactive stewards of our land and resources, SECU members are demonstrating their commitment toward building a sustainable energy future for our state and citizens of North Carolina. Creating renewable electricity from sources that are naturally replenished and in abundance is ‘the right thing to do’ for our environment and for North Carolinians.”
