Volunteer with us at the State Fair!
This is to announce our upcoming training sessions in advance of the 2010 NC State Fair (October 14-24) for our new volunteers. At our table, staffers will be responsible for greeting fairgoers, answering brief questions about NC GreenPower and handing out promo items, such as our recycled newspaper pencils. Also at the exhibit, we will have illustrations of how renewable energy is created (solar, wind, etc) for people to look at, and a small solar display to show how power is created from the sun.
ON SITE: Please choose one of the links below to sign up for the session that works best for you. We plan to meet at our offices on NCSU Centennial Campus. Training booklets will be provided to you at the session. You will also receive a map and directions with your confirmation email.
WEBINAR: We are holding remote webinars for anyone who would like training but can’t make it to our offices. You will be provided with a website link and a phone number to call in advance of your session. Please choose one of the links below to sign up for the session that works best for you and include your mailing address.
We will have additional times in early October if none of the above options work for you. You can reach us through email at speaker@ncgreenpower.org or calling the main phone line at (919) 716-6398.

Green up!
This month's subject is saving energy and cutting back on waste at the office.
What are you doing to help green up your office?
- Buy Energy Star-compliant PCs or laptops, which use 15 to 25 percent less energy.
- Set up power management features like “sleep” mode/disable screen savers.
- Turn off computer when not in use. Savings versus sleep mode are small, but add up over time.
- Unplug from phantom power. Computers use electricity even when turned off or in standby mode.
- Check out earth911.org to learn more recycling old gadgets being replaced by the latest technology.
- Do you have old books? Donate them to your local library. (Most public libraries will take them.)
- When buying a new printer, consider one that allows ink cartridges to be refilled or can use generic ink cartridges from a local refill retailer.
- Each year, Americans trash enough office paper to build a 12-foot wall from Los Angeles to New York City.
- Upgrade your computers with additional memory space. This will extend the life of your systems and avoid unnecessary electronic waste.
- Recycle your printer cartridges! Most office supply stores make it possible to turn in your old, used cartridges when buying new ones.
- Invest in your own office mug instead of using disposable cups.
- Carpooling with your colleagues to work will lessen your impact on the environment, save you money and provide you with company!
