November GREEN DRINKS
Thursday, November 11, 2010 @5:30pm
The Liberty Gastropub
1812 South Boulevard, Charlotte, NC 28203
Featuring: Organic Drink Specials
The guest speaker for November in Charlotte is NC GreenPower!
Every month around the world, people who work in the environmental field meet up at informal sessions known as Green Drinks. We have a lively mixture of people from NGOs, academia, government and business. Come along and you'll be made welcome. Just say, "are you green?" and we will look after you and introduce you to whoever is there. It's a great way of catching up with people you know and also for making new contacts. Everyone invites someone else along, so there’s always a different crowd, making Green Drinks an organic, self-organizing network.
These events are very simple and unstructured, but many people have found employment, made friends, developed new ideas, done deals and had moments of serendipity. It's a force for the good and we'd like to help it spread to other cities. Contact your local node to get the latest info about coming along. If there is no Green Drinks near you, you might want to set up a Green Drinks in your City.
2011 GUEST SPEAKERS
Green Drinks is now soliciting guest speakers for our 2011 schedule! If you're interested in discussing your company or organization to our growing community of environmentally minded folks, please email us for details at hello@greendrinksclt.com.

Did you know?
In the United States, an estimated 5-10% of residential electricity is used as “phantom” power. According to the Department of Energy, that wasted 5% amounts to an annual energy loss of 64 million megawatt-hours of electricity — an amount of energy equivalent to the output of 18 typical power stations and at a cost of over $3 billion.
If we could stop the use of all that “phantom” power, we could keep 100 billion pounds of CO2 out of Earth’s atmosphere each year! Unplug it when not in use! |

Cary-based company honored for sustainable certification
Cary, N.C. - Yes! Solar Solutions of the Triangle, a designer and installer of
custom solar and energy efficiency systems, is pleased to announce its recent achievement of
becoming a Green Plus Certified company. The company received recognition for this
accomplishment at a September 20 luncheon held by the Raleigh Chamber of Commerce
honoring all recently certified organizations.
Green Plus is a sustainability certification and education program designed specifically for
small and medium-sized businesses and non-profits. The program focuses on people, planet,
and performance by assisting companies in balancing their roles in the community, their
environmental efforts, and their financial performance.
“We are thrilled to be a Green Plus Certified company and to join the hundreds of companies
across the nation that have achieved this status,” says Kathy Miller, Vice President of Yes! Solar
Solutions of the Triangle. “Earning this certification is a tremendous honor, and it reflects the
commitment and passion of our entire team for sustainable business practices.”
During the certification process, Yes! Solar Solutions of the Triangle initially focused on

Movie Screening
Thursday, November 18
6-9pm
Riley Life Industries
1000 Parliament Court
Suite 310 • Durham, NC
|
Climate-related issues are hotly debated and have vast implications for business. Regardless of belief, view, or persuasion on the topic, there are business opportunities and benefits of investing in a low carbon economy. Diplomacy Matters Institute, a DC-based nonprofit, is planning a comprehensive, high-level mission to educate foreign government officials on the green momentum in North Carolina - and to foster an exchange of best practices and information sharing by the diplomatic delegates.
As a part of the discussion, the Institute for Sustainable Development, in partnership with Diplomacy Matters Institute, SBTDC, and NCTA, is hosting an exclusive Triangle screening and global dialogue with the 25 diplomats and a virtual conversation with the director of the documentary film, Carbon Nation.
Carbon Nation is a solutions-based film that demonstrates how confronting climate issues can boost the economy, increase national and energy security, and promote a healthy and clean environment. The film tells the story of everyday Americans working in the low carbon economy and also includes contributions from Jim Rogers, CEO of Duke Energy; Jim Woolsey, the former CIA Director; Tom Friedman, author and columnist; and Sir Richard Branson, CEO of Virgin Atlantic.
See an excerpt of the film here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NrF0ew6PDX0
The dinner, screening, and dialogue takes place Thursday, November 18th from 6 - 9 p.m. in Durham at the office of Riley Life Industries, a Green Plus Certified business, and includes dinner and drinks from local vendors.
