as a member of our Speakers Bureau? Visit our events calendar and sign up to volunteer today.
We offer free trainings throughout the year and across the state.

We had more than 70 people express interest in staffing at the NC State Fair last year, and most of those were new volunteers. A HUGE thank you to everyone who helped to make the event so successful. The 2010 NC State Fair is fast approaching and we need your help! If you are interested in staffing this year, please contact Katie or Jon by sending an email to: speaker@ncgreenpower.org

Upcoming community activities

6th Annual Tradeshow for the N.C. Building Industry

McKimmon Center, NC State University, Raleigh, NC
Thursday, September 9, 2010

Tradeshow open 9am - 5pm
Luncheon at Noon with Featured Speaker Bill Reed

The GreenNC Tradeshow is back at NC State University's McKimmon Center for our 6th annual event. The tradeshow has had great success in its first five years and will now fill the entire McKimmon Center. We will continue to highlight both commercial and residential communities with separate exhibit areas, and attendees will have access to all exhibitors. More than half of the booth spaces are reserved for the green commercial building industry, which even during these slow economic times has been experiencing increasing interest and demand. Come join us as an attendee or an exhibitor and become part of green building in North Carolina and the Southeast.

Green up!

Are you STILL buying plastic bottled water?

  • Did you know? Americans spend $7 billion dollars on these things that are only used once…
  • Ban plastic bottles in your home, and purchase aluminum or BPA-free bottles for each family member.
  • Invest in a good water filter, too!
  • You can take your plastic bottle caps - or any hard plastic lid - to any Aveda store.
  • In 2006, Pacific Institute estimated the production of bottling water produced more than 2.5 million tons of carbon dioxide.
  • Producing bottles for American consumption required the equivalent of more than 17 million barrels of oil, not including transportation.
  • It requires 3 times as much water to make a disposable plastic water bottle as it does to fill it...
  • 60 million plastic bottles a day are disposed of in America alone!
  • That's about 2.5 million bottles added to landfills every hour.
  • Last year, Americans went through about 50 billion plastic water bottles. Bring a reusable bottle with you!
  • Don’t like the taste of tap water? Buy a filter. (Remember, most bottled water sold today is filtered tap water anyway…)
  • The amount of glass bottles Americans throw away every two weeks would have filled both World Trade Center towers.
