| In just 12 months, NC
GreenPower has amassed nearly 6,000 individual participants and
more than two dozen corporate
sponsors and program
affiliates. This success puts NC GreenPower on track with some
of the nation’s leading green power programs.
”We are very pleased with our success during the past year,”
NC GreenPower president Dr. Robert Koger said. “It is evidence
to us that renewable energy is something North Carolinians care
about and want to see more of.” Dr. Koger thanked those individuals
and businesses who have participated thus far and challenged others
to help the program grow.
NC GreenPower now has suppliers producing energy for the program
and solid first year participation base. But Dr. Koger acknowledges
that there is still plenty of room to grow and many people who still
need to hear about the program.
”This is a member-driven program that has great potential
for future growth,” said Dr. Koger. “Where we go from
here is up to the people of North Carolina.”
One of the many benefits to everyone involved in the NC GreenPower
program is the partnerships that have formed between the many stakeholders
who have committed time and resources to make the program successful.
NC GreenPower relies heavily on the involvement of utilities,
environmental groups, government and civic organizations, and experts
throughout the state who have given countless hours to advising
and shaping the program into what it is today. NC GreenPower Board
of Directors Chairman Bob Goodson credits this partnership of
so many diverse groups as one of the program’s greatest strengths.
”I believe all who are involved with this program share a
common goal,” said Goodson. “We all want to build a
brighter future for our state and all those who live within it.
NC GreenPower is providing real benefits that can be shared by all
North Carolinians.”
As the past year has progressed, NC GreenPower has worked to increase
awareness of the program and its benefits to North Carolina energy
consumers. Marketing efforts have included radio advertising and
programming, magazine and newspaper exposure, public events and
speeches, and a statewide, volunteer speakers
bureau that is working to carry the positive message of renewable
energy to every corner of the Tarheel state.
While the October 1 anniversary marks an important celebration
in the history of the program, it also marks the start of new challenges
for NC GreenPower – challenges that are welcomed by Board
Chair Goodson.
”I believe that there are many people in North Carolina who
would consider being part of this program if they were to become
aware of all its benefits. Each of us who are committed must share
our knowledge and enthusiasm about NC GreenPower with someone else.
If each of us does that, I believe great things can happen.”
